We won!

June 8th, 2010

Hi guys,

So first things first - Britain’s Got Talent, what a final and indeed, what a week of talent! It’s been a great series and one hell of a final, with some really good acts, but in the end, Spelbound deserved their win. They were the best act of the evening and thoroughly deserved the title. After the show there were lots of celebrations backstage and a few sore heads the following morning, but everybody had a great time.

Just hours later we slipped into a different suit and headed to the BAFTA awards ceremony only to be given a couple of actual BAFTAs! One for Britain’s Got Talent and another one for Entertainment Performance, for I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! to top off a lovely weekend. This was our sixth nomination for Entertainment Performance and, as we’ve always said, sixth time lucky… (isn’t that a famous phrase?!) We’re thrilled and totally didn’t expect to win so we’re over the moon. The celebrations carried on late last night, and there are a few sore heads today! From here on in we’re putting an end to work for the time being and it’s us, a plasma television and the World Cup for the next month.  We can’t wait for it to start and we’re heading out to South Africa to take in a few games later in the week and we’re going to be at England’s game against the USA . We’ve never been to South Africa before and we really can’t wait.

On the subject of travelling (!!?)  the paperback version of our book is released this week so anyone who hasn’t got it - although surely you’ve ALL bought it by now - there’s always room for a little paperback in your suitcase when you’re going on your holidays, isn’t there?

Enjoy the World Cup - Come on England!

The start of the live shows!

May 31st, 2010

Well that’s it - the last of the audition shows for Britain’s Got Talent 2010 has been and gone and it’s been one hell of a ride. It seems like we’ve had everything in this week’s show, from pigs to pole dancers, dance troupes to dummies, funny fellas to fathers and sons, monks to Madonna and everything in between. It was a virtual tour de force of all that makes Britain’s Got Talent great and was the perfect way to send off all the insanity, eccentricity, hilarity and phenomenal talent that’s been the 2010 auditions.

Piers, Simon and Amanda truly had their work cut out whittling down the 200 acts that made it through, but now we have our final 40 for what promises to be a rather spectacular bout of semi final fever. Trust us when we say we can’t wait to begin the next round…this is when it gets truly competitive as each act realises it’s make or break, sink or swim, dance or die!! (Well, not literally of course…).

7:30pm tonight will be the start of it all as the first eight acts go head to head for your vote, the chance to win £100,000 and that all important place at the Royal Variety Performance. It’s going to be a truly unforgettable week of talent - even your goldfish will be hard pushed to etch the next seven days out of their tiny aquatic minds!

As we saw last year, anything can happen. Even we never know what to expect, and we’re blimmin’ hosting the thing! The order of the day is to expect the unexpected and brace yourselves for a white knuckle rollercoaster ride!

We’ll keep you updated with all the backstage gossip as the week goes on, but in the meantime let us know if your favourites made it through, who you’re most excited about seeing and who you tip for the win! We may even pass a few of your messages on!

See you on the telly tonight!

Bouncers, Wigs and Danny Boy

May 26th, 2010

Well, can you believe it? We’re almost at the end of the auditions! Next week is the last of them but still the talent keeps coming. This week kicked off with the brilliant Michael and Michael, a father and son Michael Jackson tribute act in two of the best costumes we have seen this year! Young Michael was brilliant then Papa Michael surprised us all with his moves! They easily moonwalked their way into the next round.

Another act through to the next round was the singing doorman Neil Fullard. Neil arrived mob handed with 5 of his security guard mates in tow. Nobody dare say he wasn’t any good! Although to be fair to him he was good, even if it all got a little bit ‘Sopranos-like’ backstage!

You’d think we’d learned our lesson in the past on this show but we were shocked yet again this week as Corey Shaun became Beyonce. That was a performance to behold! We really didn’t see it coming as he rocked it in his £12 Primark boots (which seemed to catch Amanda’s eye!) Goodness only knows how that wig stayed on.

Fourteen year old Liam McNally’s rendition of Danny Boy put him through to the next round with more than a handful of tears shed in the audience. He was a lovely kid, really sweet and unassuming, not long now for us all to wait and see if he has made it to the live Semi Finals which start next Monday and continue every night. HOW EXCITING!

Hope you’re all enjoying the sunshine!

The Search Continues

May 18th, 2010

It was a week for those of a somewhat loony disposition on BGT last Saturday. We started with Marlene showering the judges with gifts, a tactic which looked promising to begin with, but unfortunately turned into an act that was…well, a bit rubbish really. Although she did get it right by giving Simon a pair of Devil horns! Mark James, otherwise known as René and Renato had us convinced he was going to belt out a number from Phantom of The Opera, (as you would have heard Ant continually mention to him) but we got it completely wrong and he ended up confounding expectation with a performance that had less to do with Phantoms, and more to do with just being a little scary. Belting out “save your love my Darling” in an outfit that apparently took four hours to make. Do you reckon he got the bus to the Theatre dressed like that?

Thank goodness then for the ray of light provided by Twist and Pulse, who entertained with their own unique brand of ’streetomedy’, a mix of street dancing and comedy. With their bright hip hop outfits and body popping moves, they reminded us of ourselves back in our PJ & Duncan days with one small difference, they COULD actually dance, and we…um…couldn’t.

Talented London student Josh Barry continued the BGT tradition of finding great young singers, and helped set the tone for the good vibe the London auditions seemed to give off. Everyone was in a really good mood in old ‘Laandan’ town, not least Mr Grumpy himself Simon Cowell who was in an unusually laid back state of mind.

We had the obligatory BGT dance group in the form of ‘Ice’, who were almost forced to fire their own choreographers which caused quite a bit of drama backstage, and finally we had Paul Burling who Piers said was possibly greatest impressionist they’d ever had on the show. Trust us when we say that a standing ovation for a non-singer is no mean feat.  Could a non singer/dancer actually go all the way and win this year’s BGT?? Thoughts please?

Until next week,

Ant & Dec

Double Trouble

May 10th, 2010

Week 4 was definitely a show full of variety, kicking off with the brilliant Chippendoubles, the collection of celebrity lookalikes who performed a routine ending, quite aptly, with Simon Cowell, face to face with himself in his boxer shorts. It had the whole of Hammersmith Apollo on their feet and even made Simon himself laugh. But hang on, two Cowells in a room - both hell bent on being the centre of attention, that’s got to end in tears! Their act did make us think, “Are there any Ant & Dec lookalikes?” We’re not aware of any but sometimes people come up to us saying “My friend’s sister’s boyfriend looks like you” so if you have any pictures of Ant and/or Dec lookalikes send them to officialantanddec@iviva.com and we’ll have a laugh at them and maybe a prize for the best. Or maybe not.

Hayashi the samurai warrior had hearts in mouths as he cut up cucumbers with his samurai sword whilst blindfolded. We’ve never seen anything quite as dangerous on the BGT auditions and never seen anyone as scared as Ben, his assistant, the lucky fella who was chosen to hold a cucumber in his mouth, one strapped to his head and one in each hand. He was still shaking when he came off stage after getting a yes from all three judges. It’s the closest we’ve ever come to having decapitation live on stage!

Myzitikal tried to follow in the successful footsteps of last year’s winners Diversity by trying to take the ‘street dance troupe’ idea a step further and incorporating vocals. A great idea but probably fair to say the execution wasn’t quite there. They got through nonetheless but will probably have to polish up their act a little if they want to get any further. So too will Craig and Deborah Stevens aka Othelio, the husband and wife singing act. They sent a demo tape through to Simon hundreds of years ago when he was an A & R guy working in the music biz, and Simon said they had more chance of winning the Grand National than getting a record deal, so they came back to prove him wrong. Turns out he was right. They have never released an album, but on the bright side they did come 4th in the 1989 Grand National. Only joking, (they didn’t finish, Deborah fell at Beechers Brook.) Incredibly, they managed two yes’s, kind of proving him wrong in a small way but they’ve got some way to go to truly convince him.

Now, hands up who wasn’t pleased to see the return of an old friend, a familiar face who we’ve had fun with in the past, James Boyd aka the Ferrero Rocher man? No hands gone up? Thought so! He turned up to attempt another World Record, the ‘After Eight No Hands Challenge’. Unfortunately he failed again; dismally. And yet again Ant triumphed over him - not only beating his paltry five but equalling the world record of eight (held by some bloke in America, fact fans). Ant would like to particularly thank everyone who sent in the chocolate challenges as this is probably where he got in all the essential practice in to do so well at the side of the stage.  Thanks to all the Chocolate Challenges Ant is now a Record Breaker - well, ok, a Record ‘Equaller’ (not quite a breaker…yet).
Finishing off this week was a rousing rendition of No Regrets from 80-year-old Janey Cutler, and what a finish it was! There’s obviously something in the water up there in Glasgow as we keep finding all these singers. Last year there was SuBo, and this week JaCu had everyone on their feet, how do you follow that? We’ll tell you. You don’t. The perfect way to end the show!

See you next week

Newcastle’s Got Talent

May 5th, 2010

So this weekend was the big one, what we’ve been waiting for the past 4 years we’ve been doing Britain’s Got Talent - the chance to bring the circus to our hometown of Newcastle. It was our chance to bring the judges to the Toon for the first time in BGT history and to prove once and for all (to one judge in particular) that Newcastle really HAS got talent. Senor Cowell was so smug and convinced that we wouldn’t find any talented Geordies in our search that he actually had a side bet on with us. With all of the world famous exports our fine city has produced - Cheryl Cole, Jimmy Nail, Alan Shearer, Newcastle Brown Ale, Us! - Simon should really have known better than to imply we wouldn’t find talent there in the North East.

First up was AKA, a dance troupe of young ladies who kicked off the show in spectacular style. The ladies, resplendent in gold and lashings of fake tan were a fantastic opening act and definitely had Mr. Cowell doubting his little wager.  It wouldn’t be a BGT audition if it weren’t for one or two more ‘eccentric’ acts and Flute Magic definitely fit that description. Their combo of magic tricks sound tracked to the flute must be one of the more bizarre acts we have ever seen but weirder still was the fact that Amanda and Piers actually put them through!

Connected, the boyband whose average age is 14, took to the stage to perform and you could almost feel every single female in the room let out a collective “ahhhhhh”. They got the crowd going with their closely arranged harmonies and slick dance moves. Simon is probably already picturing them packing out arenas in a year’s time. The other big find of the week has got to be Olivia Archbold, the 14 year old singing schoolgirl with the voice of an angel, which brings us to….

The Big Question Of The Week

Who has been your favourite BGT talented youngster?

From Connie Talbot to Shaheen Jafargholi to Andrew Johnston to George Sampson. Who’s been the best?

Finally this week, Different Dreams are sadly a double act we probably won’t be seeing perform at the Royal Variety performance anytime soon, much to their dismay. Unfortunately, they couldn’t quite cut it as a duo, nor could they by going solo. But they did finish off the first ever Newcastle auditions and much fun was had by all, especially us, as we were only 20 minutes from our local pub!

See you all next week X

If money eating, ball swallowing regurgitating is wrong then we don’t want to be right!

April 26th, 2010

Well hello again you!

Firstly we hope you all enjoyed last week’s show as much as we did, over 12 million of you tuned in - can you believe it!? Britain’s Got Talent has well and truly begun - it’s all over the telly, the newspapers, the internet - you just can’t escape the BGT juggernaut at the moment and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Week two now and still the talent keeps on coming. Saturday’s show set a new benchmark for gross, yet worryingly compelling acts in the form of Stevie Starr aka ‘The Regurgitator’, an act we hope you watched AFTER you’d had you tea! A man so in control of his stomach he puts belly dancers around the country to shame. Watching from the side of the stage was gripping and it is with some slight grimacing that we can verify we heard the noise of the coins clicking together as they fell into his stomach… gross, yet neither of us could avert our eyes as the human cash machine as he did his thing. As you all know, we’ve had farting acts and burping acts but the sight of a man chucking up cash proved to be one of the most grossly compelling forms of entertainment either of us have ever seen…and when he swallowed the billiard ball, we damn near wiped a tear away from our eyes. If money eating, ball swallowing regurgitating is wrong then we don’t want to be right!

(Incidentally, please don’t try to do any of Stevie’s tricks at home, trust us when we say it wouldn’t end well!)

Less disgustingingly, there was another dog act, which needed to be something special to beat the dynamic duo of Tina and Chandi last week. So as Melissa took to the stage armed with a guitar playing canine in the shape of her dog Laika, you can imagine how excited we were at the prospect of a dog vs. dog final…..it soon became apparent that Laika had never played a guitar in her life. In fact it looked like she’d never even seen one!

She was confused, embarrassed and as resentful of the guitar as she was of Melissa for putting her through such an ordeal! Simon of course is still determined to find a dog capable of playing an instrument - so if any of you out there have a dog you think could master a trumpet/piano/guitar or even kazoo; you have a year to practice. We’ll see you at the 2011 auditions!

Other highlights for us this week included ’The Arrangement’, the classical music group with a modern ‘pop’ twist. They were amazing, we’re hoping they get through to the semi finals, but while their version of Beyonce and Lady Gaga was brilliant, it was nothing compared to Maxxie Oliver, who stunned us all with THAT Lady Gaga performance, is the world big enough for two Gaga’s? We hope not.

Gymnastic troupe Spellbound were truly ‘spellbinding’ (sorry!) and we couldn’t talk about this week’s show without mentioning Christopher Stone, the accountant accompanied by his Mum and Dad who flawed us all with that big, theatrical voice which no one expected. Is it just us or did his performance evoke the same kind of ‘wow factor’ that Susan Boyle did last year? In fact that should be our…….

Big Question of the Week!

Is Christopher Stone an early contender?

Did you see it coming? Let us know in the comments below!

Until next week,

Antlan & Decthony

PS - Sorry, back to this whole musical dog/animal thing…we actually can’t get this out of our heads now and we’re getting slightly obsessed, so if any of you have any pets that can play instruments/street dance/sing opera(!?) etc let us know. Put the video on YouTube and send us the link at Officialantanddec@iViva.com and we’ll have a look….we might even show it to Simon if they’re brilliant!

Week One: Back with a Bang!

April 19th, 2010

Well, Britain’s Got Talent is back with a bang!

What a way to start the series - we saw everything from the ridiculous to the sublime! ‘Doubletake’ and their tambourines, sorry timbrels, kicked off this year’s series, didn’t quite make the cut and off we went. We’ve barely scratched the surface of the talent we saw but what about little Chloe who blew everyone away with her stunning rendition of ‘White Cliffs of Dover’… It was deservedly met with a standing ovation and a lot of leaky eyes from the audience.

Tobias Mead got a fantastic reaction with a very creative performance, another skilled street dancer to add to the already bursting list of street dancers Britain’s Got Talent has discovered over the years. And wasn’t it great to see Kieran the drummer boy back? So many of you were gutted after he didn’t make it through last year, (as were we) so it was a real treat to see him back and finally getting the recognition he deserves. It was touch and go there for a while wasn’t it, but the judges’ decision to send him away, dump his Mum and Dad and let come back as a soloist was absolutely the right call! We both let out a collective sigh of relief and a shout of joy, (not easy, try it), when he made it through. As with Chloe, he’s a lovely kid with a good chance in the competition this year and is it just us or does he remind anybody else of a young Adrian Chiles!

The other big story of the show of course was that Simon was stuck down by flu, which meant there was a space on the panel that desperately needed to be filled. And who else can desperately fill a space quite like Louis Walsh!? The other two, Piers and Amanda were like school kids when the proper teacher is away and you’ve got a supply teacher in, they were quite mischievous. It was actually quite nice to have Louis around the place for a few days, and I think he enjoyed being out of his sheltered accommodation for a bit, bless him! And boy oh boy he absolutely loved that buzzer didn’t he? He couldn’t get enough of it, watch out for him bringing his own buzzer along to next year’s X Factor auditions!

Simon’s illness meant he missed out on one of the best dog acts we’ve ever seen on the show, Tina and her best friend Chandi. They were brilliant weren’t they!? Simon is a huge dog lover and is still gutted to this day that he wasn’t there for their audition.  Their appearance has created a bit of an argument between the two of us though, we can’t decide whether Kate and Gin the dog from series two are better than Tina and Chandi. We started to argue about it and we can’t quite agree so gang, please help us decide in our…

 Big Question Of The Week…

Were Tina and Chandi better than Kate and Gin?

Let us know in the comments below!

Until next week,

Ant & Dec.

And Here We Go Again…

April 16th, 2010

Well hello everyone,

We hope you’re looking forward to what promises to be a rather eventful few weeks on the telly…we know we are!

We’ve just arrived back in the country after indulging ourselves with a quick holiday - a great chance to recharge the batteries, soak up a little bit of sun and generally get some R&R after finishing Push the Button. We really enjoyed the whole series, and we have to say a big thanks to all of you for the support, we loved every minute of it and it’s nice to know that so many of you did as well.

Also, we hope you’ve enjoyed our online, bite-size challenges… Dec put up a brave fight throughout but it seems he was never quite able to take the lead - If you haven’t seen them, get watching (It’s a great chance to have a laugh at Dec’s expense, it’s always fun)!

We’ve also managed to squeeze a bit of business into our downtime over the last couple of weeks - We’ve been in Cannes for the MIP TV Festival to promote Push the Button. The Portuguese have bought the rights to show and (would you believe it?) the Finnish were ‘very interested’. Global domination is in our sights - you know how the saying goes, ‘today Portugal and Finland…tomorrow the world!’ Mwahaha! (sorry, got a bit carried away there)

But, any plans of global expansion will have to be put on hold for a little while, as first it’s back to Blighty to unleash the madness of Britain’s Got Talent. Can you believe it’s that time of year already?! It seems the BGT media blitz has kicked off with a bang- when we got back from France every tabloid had a countdown for when the first show starts and already stories of some of the contestants are starting to pour out…the hype has well and truly begun.

We held all the auditions back in January and February, but we’re so excited and looking forward to showing you all the insanity, calamity, hilarity and of course genuine talent that make up this year’s contestants - and we’ve already seen it all!

Only one more day until Britain shows us what it’s made of!

Can’t wait! See you on the Telly!

Here We Go!

February 24th, 2010

Phew…after months of tweaking, weeks of rehearsing and a whole heap of sleepless nights, we’re finally ready to go.

Push The Button is just around the corner and our excitement level couldn’t be higher! In fact, we’ve been getting a little over excited - if we see a button, we now feel obligated to push it.  If you see us driving around with our hazard lights on, chances are it’s because that big red button in the middle of the dash board has just proved too tempting not to push! People are getting sick of Dec trying to prod their belly button…it’s starting to get weird…

The last few weeks have been nothing but practice, practice, practice. It’s been amazing to sink our teeth into a brand new show, and honestly we couldn’t be happier with the way it’s been going.

We met our first two families on Monday, the Greenwoods from Warrington and the Fosters from Coventry. We paid a surprise visit to both families, and as you’d expect in order to keep our visit precisely what it was meant to be: a surprise, we had to keep a fairly low profile. That meant lots of sneaking, whispers and general silence as we approached. 16 year old Lucibeth Greenwood opened her front door, saw us and let out a scream so piercing it practically woke the entire neighbourhood! She frantically called the rest of her family to let them know they’d made the show and as her relatives popped round to see if the news was true the screams got louder and louder. At one point we thought the mother Carol was gonna lose control of her bodily functions. It was hysterical and we couldn’t have planned a funnier reaction - absolutely brilliant.

After our surprise visit to Warrington, we headed to Coventry to drop in unannounced on the second family. Helen Foster had popped to the local Sainsbury’s for some shopping - so after a few minutes of pretending to work the checkout (Dec doing the bleeping and Ant doing the bagging), we jumped out to surprise here. Her face was an absolute picture - we were the last people on Earth she expected to bump into. The whole store soon knew of our arrival and very quickly a crowd gathered to cheer us on. We left to a rousing cry of “C’mon Coventry!” and some very odd stares from some old ladies doing their weekly shop.

We can’t wait for both the families to go head to head, they’re both great fun and willing to do whatever it takes to win the cash prize, and that’s the fighting talk we like to hear!

So for now it’s back to rehearsals, practice and a whole lot o’button pushing in preparation for the first show.

We’ll see you on Saturday night, 7:45pm on ITV1. In the meantime get on over to our official Facebook Page to play the warm up game!
