Magnificent Men in their flying machines!

31/03/2012

Those magnificent men in their flying machines… wait, that’s us! Yes, the start of this week’s show was us soaring through the air in small stunt planes - the show that goes to extremes to find brand new talent! Yes even a loop-the-loop! It was an amazing experience. We were both a little apprehensive at first but once we got airborne and had gone upside down a few times we were loving it (although we were both a bit jelly-legged afterwards!).

We kicked off back in Blackpool this week for the second time. Our first visit was a few years back and it came up short on talent, so there was a LOT to prove. After the first few acts we were more than a little worried history was repeating itself… and then Ashley, the xylophone whizzkid came on - his hands were a blur and he absolutely smashed it! He raised the roof of the Opera House and made going to Blackpool worthwhile. We were so relieved we felt compelled to run on stage to give him a hug. Thank you Ashley and thank you Blackpool; we’re speaking to you again now :) (we’re also massive xylophone groupies)

Another big highlight this week was Manchester boyband The Mend. Four working class lads with great voices, and it looks like Simon sees something quite special in them. And with him masterminding One Direction's meteoric rise to worldwide fame, could The Mend be about to start along the same path?

Déjà Vu were a different kettle of fish though. They were a woman (not girl) band and pitched themselves to us as the “old Little Mix”. We’re glad it wasn’t actual deja-vu because we wouldn’t want to see them again!  They were like the Spice Girls in 30-40 years’ time – Old Spice! And like the namesake, they stunk!

A few eagle-eyed viewers spotted former BGT runners up Twist and Pulse in the background on last week's show. We had lots of tweets from people asking why they were there. Well all was revealed this week when they brought along their dance company to audition. Like Ashley and Glen, the company were great dancers but the T&P lads were VERY nervous - all clammy hands and sweaty brows! They told us they were more nervous this time than when they auditioned themselves. Thankfully there were 'Yes's' all round and the lads were so elated at the end that they couldn’t resist legging it on stage to join in the celebrations.

But the story of this week has got to be Ryan O’Shaughnessy, our singer from Dublin singing his love song for an anonymous lady friend who doesn’t know he’s in love with her. But by the time you read this blog she will! How amazing is that!?

Simon kept pushing and pushing Ryan for her name but he just wouldn’t let on. How romantic! She’ll have worked it all out by now though and we’d love to know how it went down with her and what happened next, (hope she feels the same or that will be #awkward!).

Thanks for all your comments about the series so far; glad you've all liked it. We love hearing from you so keep your comments coming and we’ll see you next week!

  • Fantastic show so far, I am totally hooked, there are so many acts who are fantastic who have already gone through. Its going to be very difficult for the British public to whittle them down to the final few. I just hope that those who deserve to stay do go on to the finals. I was gutted when twist and pulse went :-(
Good luck to all the acts, it's making fantastic viewing. x

  • Hi Guy's,
Loving the show as alway's, let's just say that if you two were'nt presenting BGT, it would'nt be the same, but that's just my opinion. David Walliams is doing well well as a judge as he is funny and cares about the auditionees feelings. I'm so pleased for Ashley from Northern Ireland as he is very talented as it was touch and go as to whether or not Simon would let him through, but thankfully he did. I also loved Ryan fron Dublin who sang a song he had written about a girl he loves, which was so romantic. I am supporting them both now and I wish them both the best of luck from me, from Belfast. Keep up the good work A&D as you get awards for a very a very good reason and that is for all the hard work you both do. :D
